This makes the frames blend together slightly every time it i changed on LCD. On a OLED this change is almost instant since turning off or on a sub-pixel is insanely fast, while on LCD it takes a little while since the liquid crystals has to change their polarization which is a slower physical process. No matter if it is 10, 24, 60, 120 or 1000 fps it is the same, each frame has to change from the previous. OLED and LCD is very different technologies. Yes, but 24 fps can be displayed a full 1/24 of a second or a shorter amount of that time. Unsure what would do 40Hz like the new mode in Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, but most gamers don't play with interpolation on. Sure, it does deal with judder too as in making those intermediary frames you don't have the uneven 3:2 pulldown causing judder, but the thing the de-judder mode helps fix that nothing else does is the stutter.ĭe-judder works for 24Hz and I believe also 30Hz content. Given Real Cinema mode deals with judder, calling the Trumotion setting de-judder is stupid. The de-judder setting on LG OLEDs takes the 24Hz source content and attempts to predict what intermediary frames would be, essentially attempting to change the content into 120Hz content. Because the change between pixels when content changes is near instantaneous, each frame changes to the next really fast with no blur like a lot of LCDs have, and this produces stutter (which is particularly obvious in slow panning shots). Stutter is caused because of OLED's instantaneous pixel response times highlighting jumps in 24Hz content. The Real Cinema setting on LG OLEDs deals with this judder by displaying the 24Hz content with 5:5 pulldown rather than the normal 3:2 pulldown, which is can do due to the panel being 120Hz rather than the typical 60. This causes a juddering effect as frames are held for uneven amounts of time. Because 24Hz doesn't go into 60Hz evenly, one frame of 24Hz content is displayed for 2 frames, and the next frame of content is displayed for 3 frames. Judder is a consequence of a 24Hz signal being displayed with 3:2 pulldown for 60Hz screens. Please tell me how much of a piece of shit I am for potentially turning TruMotion on hahaĪdditionally I've read anecdotally Sony appears to handle interpolation better than other manufacturers. I was hopeful after a week they would have already but leaving TruMotion off may not be my personal solution. I understand my eyes just need to adjust. I'm leaning toward leaving TruMotion Cinematic Movement on all the time. Are you leaving TruMotion off consistently? Are you occasionally turning it on for certain content? Or are you leaving a certain selection on all the time? I'm curious to poll what most users are doing today. I'm watching content on the new AppleTV 4K, with correct settings, so it plays content back at 24fps and not 30 or 60. I thought I was a purist and I've left TruMotion off but Real Cinema on. I now understand after reading many posts that LCD has an inherit blurring between frames due to a slowing panel refresh rate, whereas the OLED is near instantaneous and causes each frame to appear more prominent. (I say stutter/judder because people debate which is really the culprit) I upgraded from a Sony Bravia KDL-500W800B LCD TV. However I seem to be in the category of users who is somewhat sensitive to the stutter/judder on 24fps movies. Gaming on it has been phenomenal with my PS5. I've had my LG C1 for exactly one week today.
